Für alle, die in Ö und D PREMIERE haben: Zum Kinostart vom neuen "James Bond Casino Royale" präsentiert MGM einen Agentenabend. Episode 'Casino Royale' (Regie: William H. Brown Jr.) mit Barry Nelson (James Bond), Peter Lorre, Linda Christian Dieser schwarz-weiß-Film wurde auf.

The movie was broadcasted only once and lost. Thought the problem with that version that was re-aired was that it was missing the final confrontation between Bond And The villainous LE Chifre.

This broadcast was available before the broadcast on video in the late 80's. But like the broadcast it was missing the last 5 min.

But the wait is long over because Spy Guise has released a special collector's edition that re-stores the missing footage, and re-mastered it to the best possible quality.

The only bad quality I would say is the final missing footage, this is due to long years of storage and moist.

But other than that this is the complete version of the first broadcast. Another great thing about this VHS is that it has a wonderful intro by Lee Phiffer, who gives an overview of bond's persona and history.

And stay tuned after the credits for more info on bond. Anyhow, the movie is quite simple, Barry Nelson plays an American yep American, who would have thought he is known as card sense Jimmy Bond.

I 6 known as Leiter yep Leiter is British in this one, who would have thought both are trying to stop a mad man named Le Chifre Peter Lorre he is planning to re obtain 80 million in a card game baccarat Bond is set to play and beat Le Chifre in the game, so he can loose and hand him over to authorities.

It doesn't get more complex than that. Not to mention that the first bond leading lady appears in this movie Linda Christian The action is a bit dated and cheesy, due to limited budget and time restraints.

But the flick is interesting to see the first portrayal of Ian Flemings' literary spy. Oh and a word of advice, do not purchase the DVD version. Top rated Most recent Top rated.

The filming of this movie wasn't great. Most people don't know about Barry Nelson being the first Bond.

This movie is not action packed and in black and white. But for me I really like the older Bond Movies better.

The first Bond villain is played by Peter Lorrie. It was made in and it was filmed live for TV in Black and White. I really liked it.

Barry Nelson was the first Bond. Peter Lorrie was great as the first Bond Villain. If you are a Bond get this if you can.

One person found this helpful. It was good to see how James Bond as evolved. How the movie deviates from the book, even back in the fifties.

The acting back in then I think was more believable than now days because of all the gadgets. Would recommend it to lovers of old movies.

But not lovers of the modern A very good individual release of this, Americanized, television classic.

The DVD features high production values, with clips of each scene playing at the scene selection menu and even a short clip of the film's theme playing at the menus.

However, this is once again the truncated version and does not include the entire ending with Le Chiffre taking Valerie hostage and bond killing him.

This non withstanding, an overall good release of a very under-appreciated piece of Bond history. This is a great Bond addition! This version of the original Bond is very clear and very nice.

We were so happy to show our children the original Bond! This version in black and white had them very curious. The quality of this movie is great!

Barry Nelson as the first Bond and the whole cast do a wonderful job! If you are a Bond fan, this version of Casino Royale will make a great addition to your collection.

We are so glad this version was found and made for the public to purchase. You still see the class of the gowns and decorations in this lovely black and white version of !

He was well cast as the first Bond villain, albeit a TV show version. This was, to its credit, a serious, no-nonsense approach, if quite a bit on the stiff side.

This was the Bond title that the producers of the regular series of Bond films begun in were unable to use until the end of the century.

The next film version of "Casino Royale" was in , a completely different approach as a satirical silly romp. But James Bond would return on the big screen in "Dr.

The film, which is black and white, was actually lost untiland even then all of the various VHS incarnations except the Special Edition from Spy Guise Video lack the climax of the film, stopping with Le Chiffre apparently dying, but having just got the razorblade from his hat.

Bond's job is to clean him out. Matters are complicated when Bond's former lover, Valerie Mathis turns out to be a communist agent with Le Chiffre.

They meet in Bond's room, and knowing about Le Chiffre's bug they turn up the music and kiss, before acting their parts for the villain. The next night at the casino the game takes place.

Bond is told if he wins, Valerie will die. Bond is beaten by Le Chiffre, but then gets an extra donation, with which he cleans out the 'toad'-like villain.

Valerie disappears, and Bond returns to his room after dealing with a henchmen using a gun disguised as a cane.

He hides the cheque just before Valerie comes she is in fact a French agent, who supplied the extra donation , but Le Chiffre and his men capture them.

Bond is tied to a bath and tortured by having his toenails removed with pliers rather than Fleming's version using a seatless cane chair and carpet beater.

Valerie gives away the location of the cheque, but helps Bond reach the razorblade in Le Chiffre's cigarette case, which he had left on the bath.

Bond escapes, and overcomes a henchmen. Le Chiffre enters the bathroom with a gun, and he and Bond shoot each other.

Le Chiffre is more seriously hurt, but reaches another razorblade, hidden in his hat. Bond says 'call the police' just as Le Chiffre lunges.

Bond fans with bad videos will now be infuriated as they miss the climax. Bond dodges the razor blade and finally overcomes Le Chiffre.

Review Peter Lorre is superb as the villain Le Chiffre. His toad-like looks and menacing acting make him a great villain.

Michael Pate is annoying but acceptable as Englishman Leiter, and Linda Christian is competent enough as Valerie Mathis, although her looks are taken away from by the black and white.

She introduces him to Le Chiffre who is the Chief Soviet Agent in the area and is nearly always accompanied by three henchman called Basil, Zoltan and Zuroff.

Let's enter a dim, bygone alternate universe where James Bond was an American agent, strolling through a low-budget TV production adaptation of the Ian Fleming novel.

In footage nearly lost, reflected in the muddy black-and-white presentation, we witness an historic first - the first TV or film incarnation of James Bond.

Yep, we've definitely entered a Twilight Zone-type warped version of the Bond mythology. It's typical, however, of the limitations of the live television format from the fifties: What brief fight scenes there are, towards the end, are somewhat crude and awkward, not surprising since it is a live broadcast.

The script follows Fleming's premise: Bond's mission is basically to outplay the main villain at cards baccarat, in this case and take his money; this remained the major plot point of the new film version in Filmmakers always seem to despair when given the task of making a card game exciting on film, but the potential is there - "The Cincinnati Kid" 65 is a good example and the version of "Casino Royale" also did a good job.

Here, though a static game of cards seemed suitable for a TV episode, the solution was to make the scenes as short as possible.

Bond Nelson gains the upper hand over Le Chiffre Lorre after only a couple of hands in the 2nd act and it's all over.

The more intense scenes, in this version's favor, come about in the 3rd and final act, when Le Chiffre employs a tool of torture below the bottom of the picture, off-screen on a couple of Bond's toes; I guess he breaks them - actor Nelson gasps in pain convincingly.

This retained the essential streak of sadism in Fleming's Bond stories and the subsequent films , a surprising inclusion considering the bland TV standards of the fifties.

Nelson was bland, as well, but adequate. Lorre was Lorre, one of those character actors known for stealing scenes, with an unforgettable voice.

He was well cast as the first Bond villain, albeit a TV show version. This was, to its credit, a serious, no-nonsense approach, if quite a bit on the stiff side.
